I used to play a lot of pinball, but they lost me when the machines started getting so complex.

Whenever I play, it seems like the ball is magnetically attracted to the untouchable zone between the two paddles.

You’re in Austin right? Have you ever been to Pinballz?

For amusement only? What does that not include?

So you could have some good times with your wife on top of it, but don’t you dare to do your taxes anywhere near!

I went to a bar/pinball place near me a couple of years ago and tried playing a few of the newer machines. I’m sure that the alcohol didn’t help things any, but the machines just had too much going on, too many lights and noises, and the action was just too fast. I’d rather play an old-school machine, thanks. My favorite had to be Space Shuttle, and one of these days I’ll buy one of these:

My sister and I split the cost of an older analog pinball machine for our folks back in 1985. By disassembling it a little I was able to transport the whole thing inside of my Rabbit GTI, hatch closed (on a side note, the world needs more hatchbacks). They only recently sold it, which is fine. It was malfunctioning and the key was lost by some rowdy kids at a family gathering, so servicing it  was going to be a pain. They don’t entertain or hold family gatherings like they used to, so it was a reasonable time to let it go.

Magnets will do that.

I have, though not to play games. We had some freebie tix for laser tag, so I took my boys there. We did take a swing through the game room though (this was the one up by Lakeline). Lots of great machines, plus some older ones I would like. I was particularly taken with their retro games section, complete with a working, original Tron game. There was even a credit on it, so I played, and really sucked. I used to be really good at it back in the day. We will definitely go blow some money there at some point.

The best pinball is the old electromechanical machines.

This was my favorite table back in the day.

Kinja'd!!!

This is really all a pinball game needs to be. All these ramps, and extra levels and crap can all  GTFAC.

One of the coolest pinball machines I’ve played was Corvette Pinball at the museum decades ago. Even had an LT-5!
